a room of one's own in which to write : writeroom free!:

i have written about a macintosh program called writeroom before

essentially it’s a writing tool which grays out everything on the screen except what you are (meant to be) writing :p

over at macheist they are giving away $25 writeroom licenses for free at the moment as well as this other very useful piece of software called shovebox. it is part of a macheist package called nano which also contains some other not so useful software. but hurry! the deal is only for another 4 days. there seems to be no catch :)

update : having discovered that writeroom is now also available in an iphone version i am closer than ever to finally purchasing such a machine.

The study, authored by Professor Joseph Forgas at the University of New South Wales, shows that people in a negative mood were more critical of, and paid more attention to, their surroundings than happier people, who were more likely to believe anything they were told. “Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, cooperation, and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking paying greater attention to the external world,” writes Forgas in the November/December edition of Australasian Science.”
